South Kingstown Announces Scheduled Hydrant Flushing in South Shore and Middlebridge Areas

The Water Division of South Kingstown announces a scheduled hydrant flushing from Monday, October 23, 2023, to Friday, October 27, 2023. The maintenance activities will be conducted between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily.

Residents and businesses in the South Shore and Middlebridge areas may observe temporary rusty water or experience slightly reduced water pressure during the flushing period. The Water Division extends its apologies for any inconveniences caused by this necessary preventative maintenance.

Residents are advised to let their faucets run until the water appears clear, should they notice any discoloration. This routine semi-annual hydrant flushing serves to clear mains of sediment and ensures the optimal functioning of all hydrants in the area.

Deer-Related Vehicle Crashes Surge in Rhode Island, South Kingstown Hit Hardest

Recent data spotlight a 20% surge in deer-related vehicle crashes in Rhode Island compared to the previous year, with a specific emphasis on South Kingstown recording the highest incidents statewide at 112.

AAA Northeast underscores the heightened risk during fall and winter, particularly between 5-8 p.m., and encourages drivers to exercise extra vigilance and adhere to safety tips like respecting speed limits, using high beams on dark roadways, and maintaining lane position even when a collision seems imminent.

Newport Pell Bridge to Enforce 24/7 Single-Lane Traffic Until April 2024, RIBTA Declares

Beginning next Monday, Newport Pell Bridge will restrict traffic to a single lane in both directions, an arrangement set to persist until April 2024, as disclosed by the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RIBTA).

In this extended period, drivers will need to execute a zipper merge amidst the lane closures and are cautioned to anticipate delays.

Additionally, a width restriction is enforced, barring vehicles exceeding 8 feet, 6 inches from entry during the specified duration. This extensive timeframe for traffic limitations stems from operational requirements between the current toll plaza and Newport Pell Bridge.

Blue Cross & Blue Shield Amplifies Health and Wellness Services with the Grand Opening of Its Largest 'Your Blue Store' in Narragansett

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has opened its largest "Your Blue Store" location in Narragansett, adding to its existing stores in Cranston, East Providence, Lincoln, and Warwick.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Your Blue Store provides a variety of services, including expert guidance on Medicare Advantage plans, especially pertinent with the Medicare annual election period commencing soon.

The store located at 91 Point Judith Rd, Narragansett, aims to demystify health insurance processes and offers diverse services like one-on-one consultations, fitness classes, immunizations, and assistance from nurse case managers and dieticians, among other benefits, in multiple languages.

Broadway Street in Newport will experience closures from Gould Street through Washington Square on Saturday due to the Broadway Street Fair.

Additionally, a lane on the Pell Bridge will be closed on Sunday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. to accommodate the Citizen's Bank Pell Bridge run, potentially impacting weekend travel in the area.

REBELS

Girls Soccer
South Kingstown 1, Cranston West 0

In a riveting Div. I match, Riley Gorman netted a goal within the opening minute, establishing a lead that would remain unchallenged throughout the game, ensuring a triumphant outcome for the Rebels. Assisted by Abbey McDonald, Gorman's score proved to be pivotal.

Meanwhile, SK goalie Abbie O'Rourke demonstrated formidable defense, marking her third shutout and contributing a notable 15 saves to cement the victory against the Falcons.

Boys Soccer
Cumberland 3, South Kingstown 2

South Kingstown, the defending state champion, faced a surprising 3-2 defeat against the Cumberland Clippers.

Although South Kingstown showcased dominance in possession and impressive ball movement, providing ample scoring opportunities, Cumberland's goalie, Friedland, thwarted numerous scoring attempts.

While South Kingstown managed to secure a notable goal by Ben White, it was not enough to surmount the deficit created by Cumberland's efficient scoring and robust defensive play in the crucial moments of the match.

The loss serves as a reminder to the Rebels that, despite a strong team dynamic and successful gameplay, unexpected losses can occur.
