South Kingstown Welcomes New Assistant Superintendent

Dan Seger, previously principal at Eldredge Elementary School, is the new assistant superintendent for South Kingstown schools, joining Superintendent Michael Podraza. Seger has been with East Greenwich schools since 2009, serving as a teacher and assistant principal before leading Eldredge for seven years. Seger’s move follows his participation in a leadership program with the Rhode Island Department of Education, aimed at enhancing his skills to support student success. He views the opportunity in South Kingstown as a perfect fit and looks forward to contributing to his local community.

Can Dredging Narrow River Save Both the River and Narragansett Beaches?

State and town officials in Narragansett are exploring the possibility of dredging the Narrow River to address its ecological issues while also replenishing sand on local beaches, which have suffered severe erosion. The proposed solution would be sustainable but expensive, with estimates running into millions of dollars. Timing constraints and the upcoming national election may also affect the project's feasibility. A feasibility study's results will be presented to the Narragansett Town Council on August 5, with potential annual funding commitments required from the town and matching federal resources. Advocates argue that the project is essential to prevent further deterioration of the river and to maintain beach quality.

Tower Hill Road Paving: Nighttime Lane Closures and Daytime Ramp Work

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation continues with overnight paving on Route 1 (Tower Hill Road) from Shermantown Road to the Oliver Stedman Government Center, occurring Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. This work may result in alternating lane closures, blocked exits, and restricted access to driveways and walkways. Additionally, drainage, electrical, guardrail, and curbing work at the Routes 138 and 1 Interchange ramps will take place behind barriers on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and anticipate frequent vehicle access in and out of work zones.
