URI Students Provide Free Health Assessments for Seniors
The University of Rhode Island is hosting a Senior Day 2024 health and wellness program for individuals aged 65 and older. Participants will receive a comprehensive health assessment and recommendations for improving health and reducing fall risk. The program involves an online interview and an in-person screening session.
Interested seniors must sign up by August 23, 2024.
Rhode Island Energy Customers Targeted by Phone Scammers
Rhode Island Energy has alerted customers to an increase in scam phone calls from individuals pretending to be from the utility provider. These scammers threaten to shut off electricity if immediate payment is not made, often using caller ID spoofing to appear legitimate. The company assures customers that they will never demand money over the phone or request payment through Zelle or Venmo. Customers should ask for the caller to verify the last five digits of their account number. If the caller cannot provide this information, it is a clear indication that the call is fraudulent.
Free Car Seat Checks by South Kingstown Police at Wakefield Mall

The department's initiative is part of their commitment to enhancing child safety. No appointment is required for this event, located at 160 Old Tower Hill Road.
