South Kingstown Invites Community Input on New High School Design
The South Kingstown School Building Committee (SBC) is hosting a community forum on Tuesday, July 30th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the South Kingstown Town Hall. This event aims to gather community input on the design of the new South Kingstown High School and its athletic facilities. The SBC has assembled a team of consultants, including a project architect/engineer, an owner's project manager, and a construction manager, to oversee the project. The forum will provide updates on the project's progress and offer a platform for stakeholders to ask questions and provide feedback.
Free Car Seat Checks by South Kingstown Police at Wakefield Mall
The South Kingstown Police Department is offering free car seat checks at the Wakefield Mall on Tuesday, July 30th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Certified technicians will be available to assist with new car seats and ensure existing seats are installed correctly. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration emphasizes that proper car seat installation can save the lives of 325 children under 5 each year. The department's initiative is part of their commitment to enhancing child safety. No appointment is required for this event, located at 160 Old Tower Hill Road.
ACLU Urges Narragansett to Repeal Housing Limits on Unrelated Tenants
The ACLU of Rhode Island is pressing Narragansett to repeal ordinances that limit the number of unrelated people who can live in a single home, claiming these local laws conflict with a recently enacted state law. The state law, which came into effect in June, increases the allowable number of unrelated tenants from three to five, a change welcomed by landlords like George Nonis. Nonis, who rents to college students, believes the new law will help alleviate housing underutilization. However, the ACLU's executive director, Steven Brown, has criticized Narragansett for not repealing its restrictive ordinances, despite the state law. Town Council President Ewa Dzwierzynski countered that Narragansett is being unfairly singled out by the ACLU, which plans to address similar issues in other towns.

Jamie Brenner Author Event - July 24
Wednesday July 24, Wakefield Books hosts author Jamie Brenner at the Narragansett Library at 6pm. Jamie is the bestselling author of eight novels including The Forever Summer and Blush. She grew up in suburban Philadelphia on a steady diet of books and daytime dramas, then moved to New York City for a career in publishing before becoming an author at age forty. After raising two daughters in Manhattan, Jamie has returned to her hometown and spends her summers visiting the beaches that inspire her novels. Jamie's new book, A Novel Summer, is the quintessential beach read - set in Provincetown, Cape Cod, it's the story of a bestselling author who finds love and second chances in the stacks of a quaint beach town bookshop. This event is free to attend, but we do ask that you register so we can plan accordingly.
