South Kingstown Announces Willard Avenue Closure for Repairs

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Willard Avenue in South Kingstown will be closed to thru-traffic between Whitford Street and Winter Street from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. due to drainage repairs. Vehicles will be detoured via Whitford Street and Winter Street to High Street. The repair involves a drain line across the full width of the roadway and is expected to be completed within a day, although final paving might extend to the following day. Local traffic will still be able to access homes near the work zone, though some delays are expected. Any changes to the schedule will be announced.

South Kingstown Police Alert Residents to Rabid Raccoon

South Kingstown police have issued a warning to residents after a raccoon captured on Indigo Point Road on July 12 tested positive for rabies. Several individuals and a dog were exposed to the rabid animal. Authorities are advising anyone who may have come into contact with the raccoon to immediately reach out to the state Department of Health to evaluate their risk. Pet owners who believe their animal might have been exposed are encouraged to contact Animal Control Officer Essex at 401-783-3321, ext. 304 for further guidance.

Quahogging Incident Leads to Fatality in Narragansett

In Narragansett, a man tragically died on Friday after being pulled from a pond near East Shore Road. Emergency responders arrived promptly following a 1:24 p.m. report of a swimmer in distress. Although CPR was administered on the scene, the man could not be revived. The incident occurred as the man was quahogging, an activity his family said he loved. Fire officials highlighted the importance of water safety and advised against swimming alone, even in shallow waters and use the buddy system.

Wakefield Concert Band - July 22

Now this is not to be missed! Please join the Wakefield Concert Band under the moon for our first-ever performance at South Kingstown Town Beach. We couldn't be more excited for this show and are grateful for all of those who are helping us to put together a magical night of music by the sea. In addition to the meticulously performed hits you've come to know and love from the WCB Summer Concert Series, we'll be breaking out "Classical Gas" for the special occasion, joined by beloved member of the local music community, guitar impresario, and owner of Wakefield Music, Dennis Costa. PLUS, we'll have performances by both the WCB Flute Choir and the Dixieland Ramblers, a musical instrument petting zoo, and a rousing rendition of the '1812 Overture' that will have local fire officials on standby. Truly something for everyone! We usually say bring a chair and bring a friend, but for this one, bring all your friends and bring all your chairs. Even go ahead and ask your friends to bring all their friends and all of their friends' chairs.
It's going to be a magical night and all the more magical if you're there to celebrate it with us!
