South Kingstown Opens Cooling Centers Amid Heatwave Concerns

South Kingstown has established public cooling centers to provide relief during severe heatwaves. The Senior Center, Peace Dale Library, and Kingston Free Library will offer air-conditioned spaces with specific operating hours to ensure residents can stay safe and cool. The Senior Center is open weekdays from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Peace Dale Library is open various hours throughout the week, including Monday evenings until 8:00 PM. Kingston Free Library operates six days a week, with extended hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Deadline Extended for South Kingstown Façade Grant Applications

South Kingstown has extended the deadline for its Storefront Façade Grant Program to August 30, 2024. This initiative, part of the ARPA economic plan, aims to rejuvenate commercial properties in Wakefield and Peace Dale. The town has allocated $1,250,000 for eligible projects. Businesses must apply by the new deadline and provide a minimum match towards their project costs. Applications are available online.

T.F. Green Airport Ranked #2 in U.S. by Travel + Leisure

Rhode Island's T.F. Green International Airport has been ranked as the second-best airport in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure readers. The survey, which received over 700,000 votes, rated airports on access, check-in process, dining options, shopping, and design. T.F. Green was praised for its convenience, superb cleanliness, and ample parking. Governor Dan McKee highlighted the ranking and ongoing investments in the airport to enhance economic activity in the state.

Fraud Prevention for Seniors - July 17

Please join representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Rhode Island and Federal Law Enforcement Partners for a presentation focusing on fraud prevention for seniors.

Topics include consumer protection issues, tools to protect yourself and loved ones from online scams and identity theft, elder financial exploitation, romance scams, grandparent scams, and more. Resource materials will be made available along with ample time for a question-and-answer session.

This is a FREE program. No registration required. It will be held at the Kingston Free Library.
