RIDOH Recommends Closing Two Camps in South Kingstown Due to Bacteria
The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has recommended the closure of Kingston's Camp and Camp Hoffman on Larkin Pond in South Kingstown due to high bacteria counts. These closures aim to protect public health, following RIDOH's testing that indicated unsafe bacteria levels. RIDOH continues to monitor water quality to ensure safety and will provide updates as necessary. For more information, visit the RIDOH website.
RIDOH Offers Free Skin Cancer Screenings at Narragansett Beaches
The Rhode Island Department of Health, in collaboration with Brown Dermatology and other partners, is offering free skin cancer screenings at select beaches and parks in Rhode Island. The initiative, taking place between July and mid-August, encourages residents to get screened as part of a broader effort to protect against skin cancer. The screenings will be conducted by dermatologists, with the first 100 people at each event eligible for screening. Participants should wear bathing suits or easily removable clothing.
Free Cancer Screening Dates and Locations:
Friday, July 12: Scarborough Beach North, Narragansett, 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Saturday, July 20: Roger Wheeler State Park, Narragansett, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Friday, August 2: Scarborough State Beach North, Narragansett, 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Prepare for Changes: Rhode Island Energy Updates Website and Billing Processes
On August 19, Rhode Island Energy will transition to a new streamlined website, enhanced billing and payment processes, and a centralized customer support system for both electric and natural gas services. A new texting number will also be available for reporting outages and receiving account updates. Customers with online profiles must reverify their account information, update payment methods, and opt-in for emails and alerts to ensure a smooth transition. It's recommended that customers log in before August 19 to complete these updates. Further details and support will be available on the new website.
USPS Stamp Prices to Increase Again: Stock Up Before July 14
The price of a First-Class Forever stamp will increase from 68 cents to 73 cents on July 14, 2024. The USPS, citing inflationary pressures and a need for financial stability, has incrementally raised rates over the past few years, with the cumulative price of a Forever stamp rising by 33% since 2021. Other postage rates, including those for metered letters and postcards, will also see increases. Residents are encouraged to purchase stamps before the price hike to save money on future mailings.
