State Delays Decision on Narragansett Beach Parking Limits
Narragansett’s plan to impose three-hour parking limits on Ocean Road and Narragansett Avenue has been put on hold by the Rhode Island State Traffic Commission, which seeks more time to assess safety concerns. The decision, postponed until September 3, means the restrictions will not be in place for the peak beach season. While town officials argue the limits will reduce congestion and improve accessibility, opponents claim they serve elitist interests and restrict public access to the beach. Narragansett Town Solicitor Mark Davis contends that the measures are intended to manage parking availability fairly. The debate highlights broader concerns about accessibility and the balance between local and state authority in managing public spaces.
Update: Fog Seal Application Starts July 17th in Narragansett
The Town of Narragansett has provided an update on the road surface treatment project. The Fog Seal application will start on Wednesday, July 17th. Comer Contracting will post signs indicating the schedule, and residents are asked to avoid parking on the roads during the specified days to ensure the project's timely completion.
USPS Stamp Prices to Increase Again: Stock Up Before July 14
The price of a First-Class Forever stamp will increase from 68 cents to 73 cents on July 14, 2024. The USPS, citing inflationary pressures and a need for financial stability, has incrementally raised rates over the past few years, with the cumulative price of a Forever stamp rising by 33% since 2021. Other postage rates, including those for metered letters and postcards, will also see increases. Residents are encouraged to purchase stamps before the price hike to save money on future mailings.
