Police Increase Patrols to Curb Impaired Driving for 4th of July

Ahead of the 4th of July, the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association is increasing patrols to prevent impaired driving. Colonel Bradford Connor emphasized the need for sober driving and warned of the risks involved. Statistics from the NHTSA reveal that 2,228 people died in crashes during the holiday period from 2018 to 2022, with 39% of those fatalities due to drunk driving. Authorities will use social media to spread their safety message throughout the week.

Enhanced Boating Enforcement Announced for Independence Day Weekend

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is enhancing boating enforcement efforts for the Fourth of July weekend as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign. In collaboration with NASBLA and the US Coast Guard, DEM's Environmental Police Officers will increase patrols from July 4-6 to monitor for impaired boaters. The campaign focuses on reducing alcohol- and drug-related accidents on the water. Boaters are urged to follow safety regulations, including wearing life jackets and adhering to new rules about fire extinguishers and engine cut-off switches. More information on boating laws is available at www.dem.ri.gov/safeboating.

Rose Hill Transfer Station Closed on July 4th for Independence Day

The Rose Hill Transfer Station will be closed on July 4, 2024, for Independence Day. Regular hours will resume on July 5.
