Tower Hill Road Repaving Starts Sunday Night, Expect Delays

Drivers on Tower Hill Road should prepare for potential delays as the Rhode Island Department of Transportation begins repaving sections of the road in North and South Kingstown.

The work will start at 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, and is expected to continue until early September. The affected area spans from Shermantown Road to the Oliver Stedman Government Center in South Kingstown. To minimize disruption to summer beach traffic, the repaving will take place overnight, maintaining at least one lane of travel open from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Travelers should note that construction schedules may change due to various factors, including weather conditions.

South County Establishments Shine in Wine Spectator Awards

Seventeen restaurants in Rhode Island have received accolades from Wine Spectator in their 2024 Restaurant Awards, recognizing outstanding wine programs.

Notable winners in South County include Coast in Watch Hill, Matunuck Oyster Bar in Wakefield, Restaurant 1879 on Block Island, Double Barrel Steak by DB in Richmond, The Coast Guard House in Narragansett, and The Restaurant in Westerly. Award of Excellence winners generally have wine lists featuring at least 100 vintages, reflecting the quality and diversity of their selections.

Charlestown Approves Cost-Effective Fix for Beach Road

The Charlestown Town Council has approved a plan to repair Charlestown Beach Road using a bituminous gravel layer, despite CRMC's preference for a gravel surface.
The $30,000 fix is intended to temporarily improve the road's condition. Public Works Director Alan Arsenault will seek a maintenance assent from CRMC, building on a similar assent granted in 2013.
Some council members and residents expressed concerns about the solution's durability, while the town continues to explore long-term strategies for the road's resilience against climate change.

Celebrate Summer with Fresh, Local Foods

Make the most of summer by visiting your local farmers' markets for the freshest, locally-harvested foods. Enjoy the unbeatable taste of Rhode Island-grown tomatoes, corn, summer squash, lettuce, and blueberries, perfect for complementing a meal of locally-sourced meat or seafood. Shopping at a farmers' market is not only a nutritious choice but also a delightful way to celebrate the bounty of the summer harvest.
