Peace Dale Library Seeks Public Input for New Community Learning Center
The Peace Dale Library is set to renovate its currently unused second-floor balcony area into a Community Learning Center (CLC) thanks to federal grant funds. The CLC aims to provide a space for learning, work, and health improvement for the South Kingstown community.
To ensure the new center meets the needs of the community, the library will hold a Community Input Session on Saturday, June 22nd, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This session is an opportunity for residents, workers, and visitors of South Kingstown to share their thoughts and ideas about the CLC's programming and facilities.
Narragansett Police Arrest Seven After Large Fight at Block Island Ferry Dock
On Saturday evening., Narragansett Police responded to a report of a large fight involving 20-30 individuals at The Block Island Ferry dock. Officer Brandon Gagnon was first to arrive and requested backup as the situation escalated. Upon arrival, officers observed a chaotic scene and began making arrests. Several individuals attempted to interfere and were warned to step back, resulting in additional arrests for obstruction. In total, seven people were arrested, and two individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the altercation. The incident remains under investigation.
Narragansett Police and Coast Guard Collaborate to Capture Wanted Individual
The U.S. Coast Guard played a crucial role in assisting the Narragansett Police Department with the arrest of a suspect wanted for multiple felonies and alleged domestic violence. The individual had seven warrants, including five extraditable from Connecticut, a Superior Court bench warrant, and another from Cranston police.
The suspect was initially spotted on a commercial fishing boat, prompting local police to seek help from the Coast Guard. Despite attempting to flee to a nearby dock after allegedly being tipped off about the police presence, the suspect was apprehended.
