South Kingstown Approves Contract to Ensure School Construction Stays on Budget

South Kingstown has approved a $9.6 million contract with Gilbane Building Company to act as the construction manager at risk (CMAR) for the new high school and athletic complex. This decision, supported by the Town Council, aims to prevent budget overruns and protect against tax increases. The CMAR method involves hiring a construction manager early in the design process to provide cost estimates and oversee project risks. The School Building Committee and School Committee have also endorsed this approach. Gilbane's team includes several South Kingstown residents, adding a personal commitment to the project's success. The project manager has been working since July last year, and the construction manager has already begun work following Town Council approval. The design process will include public presentations and feedback from various stakeholders.
