Michael Podraza Named South Kingstown's New School Superintendent

Michael Podraza, an experienced education leader from East Greenwich, has been appointed as the new superintendent of the South Kingstown School District, effective July 1. Podraza, who currently serves as the assistant superintendent in East Greenwich, brings a rich background in educational leadership and district-wide initiatives.

Having served in various roles over his 17-year tenure in East Greenwich, including assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent, Podraza expressed his enthusiasm for his new role. "I’m eager to lead a district of South Kingstown’s caliber and commitment to excellence," he said following the announcement.

South Kingstown Schools Awarded Grant in Rhode Island’s “Get the Foam Out” Campaign

Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green and the Rhode Island Department of Education have announced nearly $2.7 million in grants for 101 schools across the state, including South Kingstown, as part of the “Get the Foam Out” initiative. Launched in January, this campaign focuses on reducing single-use Styrofoam meal trays and diverting food waste from landfills.

Governor Dan McKee emphasized the importance of creating an environmentally friendly education system to ensure a greener future for Rhode Island’s children. The initiative aims to lessen the detrimental impacts of pollution by eliminating Styrofoam from schools.

Commissioner Infante-Green highlighted the critical need for students to learn about environmental protection. She expressed gratitude for the collaboration with state, school, and community leaders in making this initiative a reality.

South Kingstown High School Eases Prom Guest Restrictions

After public outcry, South Kingstown school officials reversed a prom policy that restricted students from bringing guests not currently enrolled in high school, emphasizing the importance of constructive communication and flexibility.
