Memorial Day Weekend Kicks Off Daily Beach Access

Rhode Island’s state beaches will open daily from tomorrow through Labor Day, marking the official start of the summer beach season. The Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is urging beachgoers to purchase their state beach parking passes in advance to minimize entry delays during the busy Memorial Day weekend. Season passes, which are available for purchase online, take up to 24 hours to be validated.

All state beaches, except for Scarborough South State Beach, will be open daily starting May 25. Scarborough South will open on June 15. Lifeguards and beach staff will be available during operating hours, which run from 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays and 8:30 AM to 6 PM on weekends and holidays.

Beach passes can be purchased online at www.beachparkingri.com, and will also be available in person at the Scarborough North State Beach overflow lot starting May 28. The use of license plate recognition technology at express lanes will streamline entry for prepaid customers, reducing wait times.

For safety reasons, parking lots may close when beaches reach capacity, with real-time status updates available online. DEM encourages beachgoers to consider alternative locations if their preferred beach is full.
