Police Warn of Border Patrol and Computer Virus Scams Targeting Residents

The police are alerting residents to two recent scam attempts. In one, a caller posing as a U.S. Border Patrol agent instructed a woman to deposit $7,000 into a Bitcoin ATM.
In another, a woman was told her computer was infected with a virus and to deposit $50,000 into a Bitcoin ATM.
Residents are urged not to comply with such demands and to contact their local police or bank if they suspect fraud.

RIDOT Implements Lane Shifts on Route 138 in North Kingstown

RIDOT is reducing traffic to one lane in each direction on Route 138 under the Tower Hill Road Bridge in North Kingstown.
This lane shift, part of a $35.8 million project to replace the 55-year-old bridge, will be in place for about three months.
During this time, access to the Route 1 bridge and all on- and off-ramps will be maintained.
RIDOT will also resurface over six miles of Route 1 from North Kingstown to South Kingstown.

Narragansett Police to Host Seminar on Internet Scam Prevention

The Narragansett Police Department is hosting a seminar on internet scams and fraud prevention on Thursday May 16 2 PM - 3 PM at Maury Loontjens Memorial Library.

This informative session will cover how to recognize different types of scams, what to do if you are targeted, and how to prevent future attempts. Attendees will also learn about local scam case studies and reporting procedures. Refreshments will be provided.

Experience Spring Birding with Audubon Society’s Free May Walks

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island is hosting free bird walks throughout May, celebrating the arrival of Neotropical migrants like warblers and tanagers.
These events are open to all, with expert guides available to assist participants.
Registration is required at asri.org/calendar.
A notable walk will be held at Marion Eppley Wildlife Refuge, West Kingston on May 16 from 8:00-11:00 a.m
