Deadline Approaching for FEMA Disaster Relief Applications in Rhode Island

Rhode Islanders affected by the storms in December 2023 and January 2024 have until May 20 to apply for disaster relief from FEMA. Those in Washington County who experienced flooding or property damage can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov.
Additionally, the SBA is offering low-interest disaster loans to businesses, renters, homeowners, and organizations impacted by the storms.

Hydrant Flushing Scheduled in Narragansett's North End Water System

The Town of Narragansett Water Division will conduct hydrant flushing in the North End Water System service area from May 9 through May 17, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Customers may experience discolored water and reduced pressure during this time.
If water appears dirty, turn it off temporarily, wait for the flushing to finish, and then run your cold-water faucet until it clears.
This semi-annual procedure removes organic material and sediment from the water mains.

South Kingstown Land Trust Receives $700,000 in DEM Green Bond Grants

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) announced the award of $2.6 million in grants to safeguard 383 acres of green space through its Local Open Space Grant Program.
The funding is part of the 2022 Green Bond, passed by almost 70% of voters.
South Kingstown Land Trust received $700,000 to protect the historic Kinney Azalea Gardens and 34 acres along the South County Bike Path near the Great Swamp Management Area.
