South Kingstown to Host Final Budget Hearing on April 29

The Town Council of South Kingstown invites residents to attend a public hearing regarding the final adoption of the FY 2024-2025 budget on April 29, 2024, at 7:00 PM in the Town Council Chambers. The session will address the council’s preliminary budget decisions and consider modifications proposed through community petitions.

Historic Larchwood Inn Set for Transformation into Alzheimer’s Care Facility

Plans to replace the Larchwood Inn with a new Alzheimer's care facility are underway, featuring a design that retains the historic site's character. The proposed 61,500-square-foot facility will serve 72 dementia patients and includes private rooms, communal spaces, and a gym. The project, by Post Acute Partners, aims for a design that fits the existing commercial zoning and respects the site's historical value. Community reactions are mixed, with a pre-application hearing scheduled for Tuesday’s Planning Board meeting, which begins at 7 p.m. in Town Hall Council chambers to discuss the facility's detailed plans.

Narragansett Town Council Faces Split Over $3 Million Housing Bond

During a recent meeting, the Narragansett Town Council discussed a proposed $3 million bond to fund affordable housing initiatives. Finance Director Christine Wilson reviewed the town's financial status, affirming its capacity to manage this new bond while staying within safe debt limits. Despite some council members supporting the bond due to the acute housing shortage, others raised concerns about the lack of a detailed plan for the funds and the overlap with another bond for infrastructure. The debate continues as the council seeks more precise strategies and considers alternative funding sources.

Wakefield Concert Band to Premiere New Local Composition at Spring Concert

On April 29th at 7 PM, the Wakefield Concert Band will perform its Spring Concert at South Kingstown High School Auditorium. The concert will feature Dennis Costa playing "Classical Gas" and the first performance of "The Rhode Island March" by local composer Benjamin Nacar, celebrating both local talent and new music contributions.
