Federal Disaster Loans Offered to Residents Affected by Winter Flooding

Residents of Washington, and Newport counties, have an opportunity to apply for federal disaster assistance loans due to the severe winter flooding experienced in December and January.
The Small Business Administration (SBA), in collaboration with the Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience and Connecticut district offices, is offering support to both individuals and businesses affected by these events.

It's crucial for those interested to act swiftly, as the application deadline for physical damage loans is approaching on May 20th, while economic injury loan applications are due by December 23rd.

The assistance has been made available in response to the flooding events that occurred from December 17-19, 2022, and January 9-13, 2023, which caused significant damage and economic disruption in the area.

Volunteers Rally to Rebuild Narragansett's Dunes in Largest Effort Since Sandy

Volunteers and local agencies are working to restore the severely eroded dunes at Narragansett Town Beach following destructive winter storms that removed an estimated 10 to 15 feet of dune sand.
The project includes the largest sand replenishment since Superstorm Sandy and involves planting over 22,000 grass stalks. The effort aims to protect the beach and nearby infrastructure while enhancing its resilience against future storms.
The town anticipates potential state aid and continues to seek federal assistance for these costly yet crucial restoration efforts.
