South Kingstown to Discuss Municipal and School Budgets at Public Hearings

The Town Council of South Kingstown, in collaboration with the School Committee, has scheduled two public hearings to discuss the preliminary budget for the fiscal years 2024-2025.
These hearings will focus on both the municipal and school budgets. The meetings are set for Monday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 17 at 7:00 PM in the South Kingstown Council Chambers located at Town Hall, 180 High Street, Wakefield, RI.

Interested residents are invited to attend these hearings to gain insight into the proposed budget, which was approved by the Town Council on March 18, 2024.

A summary of the preliminary budget is available here for those who wish to review it in advance of the meetings.

South Kingstown to Vote on $150 Million Education and Sports Facility Bond

On Tuesday, May 7th, the community of South Kingstown is set to make a crucial decision regarding the future of its educational and sports facilities. A referendum proposes the issuance of bonds not exceeding $150 million, dedicated to building a new high school and an athletic facility.
This initiative reflects the community’s push to modernize and expand its educational infrastructure, promising significant enhancements for students and athletes alike.
For voters seeking to make an educated decision, detailed information on the financial stakes and potential tax ramifications is accessible at skschoolproject.com.

Community Called to Give: RIBC and Tomorrow Fund Team Up for Crucial Blood Drive

The Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) has partnered with the Tomorrow Fund for a donation drive from April 14 to 19, aiming to support children with cancer and their families.
For every blood or platelet donation made, RIBC will donate one dollar to the Tomorrow Fund.
This effort is critical as the national blood supply has been under pressure, particularly from a decline in youth donations. The RIBC highlights a severe need for O- blood type and platelets, crucial for treating cancer patients, with 18,000 units annually used at Hasbro Children’s Hospital alone.
Donors can schedule an appointment by phone or online.

Public Hearings Scheduled as RIPTA Revises Transit Plans

After delaying its service changes originally set for early April, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is now soliciting public feedback through community meetings. These revisions aim to reduce the impact on riders by allowing further assessment and adjustments. One of the significant upcoming public forums will occur on April 19, 2024, from noon to 2 pm at the URI Memorial Union, Senate Chamber in Kingston.
