Scam Alert: Fake Jury Duty Calls Target Rhode Islanders
The Rhode Island Attorney General's Office have issued warnings about a scam where individuals are told they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid arrest.
The scammers instruct victims to withdraw and transfer money, sometimes converting it into cryptocurrency.
Authorities stress that the court does not contact individuals for payments regarding jury service and advise against sending money.
Residents are encouraged to report any such calls to their local police department or the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov
South Kingstown to Discuss Municipal and School Budgets at Public Hearings
The Town Council of South Kingstown, in collaboration with the School Committee, has scheduled two public hearings to discuss the preliminary budget for the fiscal years 2024-2025. \
These hearings will focus on both the municipal and school budgets. The meetings are set for Monday, April 15 and Wednesday, April 17 at 7:00 PM in the South Kingstown Council Chambers located at Town Hall, 180 High Street, Wakefield, RI.
Interested residents are invited to attend these hearings to gain insight into the proposed budget, which was approved by the Town Council on March 18, 2024.
