Helicopter Crash in Worden Pond Leads to Dramatic Rescue by Fisherman

A helicopter carrying two REGENT Craft employees crashed in Worden Pond while conducting sensor tests. Local fisherman Robert Buscher rescued the pilot and passenger, who suffered minor injuries. Environmental authorities have assessed the scene, and the FAA is investigating the crash.
Efforts are underway to recover the submerged helicopter.

Great Swamp Shooting Range Opens for the Season

The Department of Environmental Management has opened the Great Swamp Shooting Range in South Kingstown for the season, providing a free public space for various shooting disciplines.
The range is open daily until November 1st, and users must obtain a range permit in advance.
The facility supports the DEM Hunter Safety Education Program, emphasizing the importance of safe handling and shooting practices.

RIPTA Seeks Rider Feedback to Improve Transit Services

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is conducting its annual customer satisfaction survey to gather feedback from riders. The survey is available on RIPTA's website until May 5 in both English and Spanish. Participants can win prizes, including $70 in fares.
The feedback collected will inform RIPTA's operations and decision-making.

Upcoming Forums to Address $150 Million School Bond in South Kingstown

The South Kingstown School Building Committee (SBC) has announced two community forums to discuss the proposed school building project and the associated $150 million bond referendum set for May 7, 2024. The forums aim to provide information and address questions from the community regarding the project's details and its implications.

Chris Spiegal, the SBC project manager, Phil Conte, a representative from SLAM/Studio JAED Architecture, and other SBC members will be present to offer insights and answer questions.
The first forum will take place on Thursday, April 11th, and the second on Saturday, April 20th, both running from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the South Kingstown High School Cafeteria, located at 215 Columbia Street.

The events are open to all South Kingstown residents, offering an opportunity for community members to engage with the project planners and gain a deeper understanding of the proposed school building initiative and the financial aspects of the bond referendum.
