The South Kingstown School Building Committee (SBC) has announced two community forums to discuss the proposed school building project and the associated $150 million bond referendum set for May 7, 2024. The forums aim to provide information and address questions from the community regarding the project's details and its implications.

Chris Spiegal, the SBC project manager, Phil Conte, a representative from SLAM/Studio JAED Architecture, and other SBC members will be present to offer insights and answer questions.
The first forum will take place on Thursday, April 11th, and the second on Saturday, April 20th, both running from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the South Kingstown High School Cafeteria, located at 215 Columbia Street.

The events are open to all South Kingstown residents, offering an opportunity for community members to engage with the project planners and gain a deeper understanding of the proposed school building initiative and the financial aspects of the bond referendum.

Firefighter Scholarships Available for South Kingstown Students and Firefighters

The Union Fire District of South Kingstown and the Kingston Fire District, in collaboration with the Town of South Kingstown, are inviting applications for six firefighter scholarships for the year 2024. Chiefs Steven Pinch and Tom Reed announced that these scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $2,500, aim to support students and current firefighters pursuing a career in fire services or emergency medicine.

Eligible candidates include graduating seniors from South Kingstown High School or the Prout School, current members of the Union Fire District or Kingston Fire District, and individuals with direct family ties to current or lifetime members of these fire districts. Applicants are required to submit an online application by May 5, outlining their commitment to public service in 300 words or less and providing a high school transcript that includes first-semester senior grades.

The scholarships are intended to assist recipients in funding their education at two- or four-year colleges, technical or trade schools, or accredited EMT or higher medical training programs.

Avoiding Online Car Scams: Tips from the Better Business Bureau

In the digital age, buying a car online comes with the challenge of discerning legitimate deals from scams. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) highlights the increasing sophistication of fraudsters who often masquerade as authentic sellers, sometimes even impersonating car dealerships.

Scammers typically entice buyers with unrealistically low prices and avoid face-to-face interactions, pushing for payments through unsecured methods like gift cards, Venmo, or cash-sharing apps.

BBB advises online car shoppers to ensure transactions are conducted through secure websites. Warning signs of a scam include poor grammar, low-quality images, and unrealistic asking prices.
BBB emphasizes the importance of using secure payment methods and avoiding the use of gift cards for purchases.
