Narragansett Town Council Tables Affordable Housing Bond Amid Fiscal Concerns
During a contentious meeting, the Narragansett Town Council delayed a vote on a resolution for a $3 million bond referendum intended to fund affordable housing initiatives.
The delay was prompted by concerns from council members regarding the proposal's vetting process and potential effects on the town budget.
The draft legislation included various housing support strategies, but council leaders called for further analysis and discussion.
The public overwhelmingly supported the measure, signaling the community's desire for solutions to the ongoing housing crisis.
Rhode Island Foundation’s Scholarship Funds Open Doors for Local Scholars
The Rhode Island Foundation has made $4 million in scholarship funds available to students from Rhode Island. The funds are intended to support costs associated with higher education, such as tuition and textbooks.
Last year, the Robert G. and Joyce Andrew Scholarship Fund aided nearly 90 students, with additional support from various donors.
The Foundation offers a diverse range of scholarships, including those for vocational and technical education, with an upcoming application deadline of April 15.
Get Tax Issues Sorted: Rhode Island's Tax Compliance Assistance Day
The Rhode Island Division of Taxation is hosting a free Tax Compliance Day on April 8 to help residents address tax-related concerns before the impending deadline.
The event, taking place in Cranston, will feature IRS representatives and state tax employees providing support with tax balance inquiries, licensing, registration, and collection services. Neena Savage of the state's taxation division recommends that attendees bring all necessary tax documents for assistance.
Pre-registration for the event is available online.
Brushes for a Cause: Fundraising Event for Friends of Exeter Animals
On Friday, April 5th, Phil’s Main Street Grille will become a venue for creativity and charity with a canvas painting event from 6 PM to 8:30 PM.
The evening is designed to support the Friends of Exeter Animal Shelter, combining art instruction provided by Rebekah Cook Art Studio and the hospitality of Phil’s.
In addition to the main event, guests can enjoy selections from the grille's wine and food menu and peruse Touchstone Jewelry's offerings.
A raffle aims to further the night’s charitable contributions.
Make your reservation at Phil’s, which opens its doors at 5 PM for dinner.
The event fee includes a $25 donation to Friends of Exeter Animals, supporting the shelter's vital work.
South Kingstown Police to Host Scam Prevention Seminar

The event aims to inform participants, particularly seniors, about a wide range of scams including those related to computers, telephones, home repairs, utilities, social security, romance, and real estate.
