FEMA Opens Disaster Recovery Center in South Kingstown for Storm-Affected Residents

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has set up a Disaster Recovery Center at Curtis Corner Middle School in South Kingstown to support residents seeking federal assistance for damages caused by the storms in December 2023 and January 2024.
The center operates daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., except on May 7th. In addition to the center, FEMA teams are actively canvassing South Kingstown neighborhoods to assess storm-related damages.
Residents can expect FEMA staff to carry proper identification and should note that they will not ask to enter homes. For verification of FEMA inspectors, residents are advised to contact the provided phone number.

Upcoming Road Work on Worden's Pond Road

The Town of South Kingstown has scheduled pavement reclamation and road paving projects to start on April 1, 2024, affecting Worden's Pond Road from Leisure Drive to Ministerial Road.
The road will be restricted to local traffic during the construction period, and residents should be prepared for possible delays and detours as the work progresses.

Rhode Island's DEM Seeks Seasonal Workers for Summer Recreation Sites

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is seeking candidates for various seasonal positions to support the state's natural recreational sites during the summer.
The Division of Parks and Recreation relies heavily on seasonal employees to manage its extensive network of parks and beaches. Lifeguards, in particular, are offered competitive pay and bonuses, with requirements for state certification and valid training cards.
The DEM is actively recruiting to fill these positions, with 25% of its minimum summer workforce already in place. Interested applicants can apply online through the state's official website.

South Kingstown Police to Host Scam Prevention Seminar

The South Kingstown Police Department has organized a seminar on scam prevention scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, at the Maury Lonnntjens Memorial Library, Narragansett.
The event aims to inform participants, particularly seniors, about a wide range of scams including those related to computers, telephones, home repairs, utilities, social security, romance, and real estate.
Detectives will offer advice on how to quickly identify potential scams and what steps to take if one suspects they are a victim.
The seminar is designed to enhance the attendees' ability to protect their finances from fraudsters employing fear, confusion, and distraction techniques.
