Have Your Say on Plastic Recycling: RI Commission Opens Floor to Public

The Plastic Bottle Waste Commission in Rhode Island is conducting a study to find better ways to recycle plastic bottles, alcoholic beverage containers, and single-use plastic packaging. To gather public input, the commission is holding a hearing on Monday, April 1, where individuals can provide testimony in person or submit written feedback. The hearing will take place in room 313 of the Rhode Island State House at 3 p.m.
For those opting to submit written testimony, it should be sent to Michael Hogan at [email protected] and Stephanie Gemski at [email protected].
The testimony should include the submitter's name and organization and is recommended to be in PDF format. This written input will be distributed to the members of the committee for consideration.

Spring Wild Turkey Hunting Permits Available April 1 in Rhode Island

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) has declared that permits for the spring wild turkey hunting season will be available from April 1. The season includes specific periods for youth hunters aged 12 to 15, paraplegic hunters, and the general public. Hunters must adhere to regulations, including bag limits and legal shooting hours.
The successful restoration of the wild turkey population in Rhode Island is a testament to conservation efforts funded by hunting license fees and federal aid.
Hunting plays a crucial role in the state's wildlife conservation, supporting family traditions, connecting individuals with nature, and contributing to the economy.
The DEM also emphasizes the importance of hunter education for safety and responsible hunting.

Demolition of Lighthouse Inn in Narragansett Finally Underway

The demolition of the Lighthouse Inn in Narragansett has finally begun on Thursday after delays caused by the need to remove Styrofoam insulation from the roof.

Reminder - Pell Bridge Area to Experience Traffic Disruptions Due to Lane Closures

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) has announced lane closures on Route 138 in the vicinity of the Pell Bridge (Newport Bridge), set to occur from the evening of April 5 to the morning of April 8.
The construction work, initially planned for late March, was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
Travelers can expect disruptions between the Pell Bridge and the J.T. Connell Highway in Newport as the existing infrastructure is removed and new installations are put in place.
