South Kingstown Council to Weigh Short-Term Rental Registry at Public Hearing

The Town Council of South Kingstown has reconvened its public hearing to deliberate the adoption of a new registry for short-term residential rentals.

This registry, which would entail a $100 annual license fee, targets property owners renting their spaces for less than 30 consecutive days.

The hearing is a continuation from January and is set to take place on March 25, 2024, at 7:30 pm.

Narragansett Town Council's First Vote Passes on Contested Rental Ordinance

Narragansett's Town Council has advanced an ordinance designed to rein in short-term rentals by enforcing a seven-night minimum stay, prohibiting rentals for events, and gradually reducing rental permits by 100 each year for the next two years.

The move aims to bolster the number of year-round residents and address housing affordability, but property owners counter that it could harm local businesses and escalate rental and real estate prices.

After a 3-1 vote, the ordinance faces a second reading before becoming law, with enforcement measures still in development.

Newport Travelers, Take Note: Pell Bridge Ramps Lane Closures This Weekend

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation has announced that as part of the ongoing improvements to the Newport Pell Bridge ramps, there will be lane closures from Friday evening through Monday morning.
Travelers crossing the Newport Pell Bridge should plan for additional commute time.
This work is critical to the $74 million project, which is designed to enhance the flow of traffic into Newport and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

South Kingstown Invites Residents to Shape Future of Old Tower Hill Road

South Kingstown is organizing a week-long charrette to involve the community in planning the future of the Old Tower Hill Road neighborhood.

The process will include interactive public meetings, design sessions, and workshops to gather input and ideas. The goal is to create a vision that is compatible with the area's historic context and meets community expectations.

The charrette will culminate in a presentation of the work-in-progress on March 28.
