RITBA Alerts Drivers to Lane Changes at Newport Pell Bridge Plaza
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority is alerting drivers to a lane shift at the Newport Pell Bridge plaza as part of ongoing construction work. The change will occur between March 5 and March 7, moving the single lanes of travel in the work zone to the westbound side. The project aims to rehabilitate the bridge, install a new toll gantry, and demolish the old toll plaza, and is currently on schedule.
New COVID-19 Booster Shot Recommended for U.S. Seniors
The CDC's advisory panel suggests that Americans 65 and older should receive another COVID-19 booster shot, following an updated vaccine formula introduced in September. This recommendation comes amidst discussions on the importance of further boosting and the potential impact on public sentiment towards vaccinations. While some experts argue that the fall shot provides adequate protection, the panel emphasizes that vaccine-induced immunity wanes over time, especially in seniors. COVID-19 continues to pose a significant risk, particularly to older individuals, with thousands of hospitalizations and deaths each week. The panel's "should" recommendation aims to encourage healthcare providers to offer the shots more proactively.
