Narragansett Holds Line on Parking Fees, Adjusts Time Limits and Cabana Costs

The Narragansett Town Council voted to maintain current beach parking fees, rejecting a proposed increase for weekdays. The beach will also close an hour earlier in the evening, though access remains open. The council approved spending for new parking restriction signs in the Pier area, with no plans to introduce parking meters. The decision comes amid concerns of making the beach more exclusive and the need for revenue to cover rising costs of beach maintenance and improvements. Despite the decision to keep parking rates stable, rental fees for cabanas and lockers at the beach will see a 20% increase.

RIDOT Launches Washington Bridge Lane Expansion

The Washington Bridge will undergo a lane expansion, anticipated to last eight weeks, with the goal of increasing vehicle capacity by 50%. The new traffic pattern will feature narrower lanes and restrict trucks to the right lane. While officials expect overall time savings, they refrain from specifying traffic times due to unpredictable factors. Speed limits will be reduced for safety during construction, which coincides with ongoing bridge evaluations.
