The Rhode Island Division of Taxation is cautioning residents about a novel scam targeting taxpayers, with scammers posing as state tax officials. Tax administrator Neena Savage highlighted that this is an unprecedented tactic in Rhode Island and reassured that her office communicates about tax debts through written notices, not unsolicited calls.
Residents are encouraged to stay alert to this evolving threat and report any potential scams to the Division of Taxation by email at [email protected] or by phone at 401-574-8829.
