Are You Owed Money? Rhode Island Treasurer Says Check Now!
The state treasurer’s office in Rhode Island is raising awareness about unclaimed property, with General Treasurer James Diossa encouraging residents to use FindRIMoney.com for quick searches.
Unclaimed property includes dormant financial accounts and other valuable items that have not seen owner activity for years, and residents can contact the treasurer’s office for more information at (401) 462-7676 or via email at [email protected].
FEMA Issues Warning to Rhode Islanders About Post-Storm Scam Calls
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is issuing an alert to Rhode Island residents about fraudulent phone calls following the storms in September. Scammers, masquerading as FEMA representatives, have targeted individuals affected by the weather events, seeking to illicitly obtain personal information.
These impostors have been reported to request sensitive details from storm-affected individuals, including social security numbers, along with income and banking information, under the guise of FEMA officials.
FEMA has clarified that legitimate representatives contacting applicants will already possess such personal information for verification purposes, negating the need to request it over the phone.
Victims of these scam calls are urged to report the incidents to the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline at 866-720-5721 or through the website IdentityTheft.gov, to help prevent further fraudulent activities.

Men’s Basketball
URI struggled against Duquesne's superior perimeter shooting, led by Dae Dae Grant's 31-point performance, resulting in an 85-71 loss. Despite efforts to narrow the lead, Duquesne's consistent scoring from beyond the arc secured their victory.
The Men’s next game will be away against George Washington on Tuesday, February 6th at 7 PM. This game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Women’s Basketball
URI Women’s basketball team, missing critical players, faced difficulties in their game against Duquesne, particularly in the second and fourth quarters, leading to a 70-61 loss. The absence of Teisha Hyman and an early injury to Ines Debroise disrupted the Rams' game plan, although a late surge nearly closed the scoring gap. Ultimately, Duquesne secured the win with a strong finish.
The next Women’s game will be home against Richmond on Wednesday, February 7th at 6 PM. This game will be streamed on ESPN+.
