South County Art Association Unveils Varied 2024 Exhibition Lineup
The South County Art Association's 2024 schedule offers a variety of exhibitions, including juried and member-only shows, across different artistic media. The jury process ensures uniqueness in each exhibit, and special events like the "Great Art Heist" are planned. The focus is on providing ample opportunities for local artists.
“Eat Well, Be Well’: Rhode Island’s New Program to Enhance SNAP Benefits
Rhode Island has launched an innovative pilot program aimed at encouraging recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to purchase more fruits and vegetables. The "Eat Well, Be Well" program, initiated by the R.I. Department of Human Services, offers SNAP beneficiaries up to $25 in additional benefits specifically for buying these healthy food items.
Starting Tuesday, the program allows SNAP recipients to earn 50 cents for every dollar they spend on fruits and vegetables at participating Stop & Shop and Walmart stores. The extra benefits are automatically added to their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards following their purchases.
The pilot program extends beyond fruits and vegetables, also encompassing edible seeds, fresh herbs, salad kits, and garlic, thereby offering a wider range of nutritious options for participants.
Glenn Dewell Hosts Musical Fundraiser for Local Food Pantry at Java Madness
On Sunday, January 28, local musician Glenn Dewell will host a musical fundraiser at Java Madness, located at 134 Salt Pond Road in Wakefield, RI. The event, scheduled from 10:30 am to 2 pm, is organized to collect donations for the food pantry at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Dewell, known for his engaging musical style, will be accompanied by Harry Lawton, fiddler Gianna Marzilli Ericson, and other notable guest performers.
This benefit concert continues Dewell's tradition of supporting various charitable causes through music. He has been instrumental in organizing fundraisers that have benefited a range of organizations, both within the local community and on a national scale.
The event promises not only an opportunity for community members to enjoy live music but also to contribute to an essential local cause. Through these gatherings, Dewell and his fellow musicians have created a platform that blends entertainment with philanthropy, directly impacting various non-profit organizations and their beneficiaries.
