Maury Loontjens Memorial Library Set to Open in Narragansett
Narragansett will celebrate the opening of the Maury Loontjens Memorial Library at 25-27 Pier Market Place. The public opening on Saturday includes light refreshments, preceded by a Friday evening event honoring project contributors. The weekend's events will conclude with a ribbon-cutting on Sunday at 12:30 PM, attended by Senator Reed and Governor McKee.
Public Health Advisory: Rabid Raccoons Found in Local Area
Two raccoons in the area have been confirmed to have rabies, prompting officials to remind residents to vaccinate pets and avoid wildlife. Reporting strange animal behavior is crucial. Rabies is a fatal disease but preventable with proper medical intervention following exposure.
Safety Warning: Avoid Walking on Frozen Local Water Bodies
During the recent cold snap, many local ponds and lakes have frozen over, leading fire officials to caution against venturing onto the ice.
Despite appearances, the ice may not be uniformly solid, and conditions can change rapidly with temperature fluctuations. The state does not monitor ice safety on most water bodies, except a few state-owned properties, and currently, none are deemed safe for skating. The general advice is to avoid all frozen ponds and lakes, as the risks associated with thin ice are significant.
Join South Kingstown’s Fun-Filled Trivia Night for a Good Cause
South Kingstown is gearing up for an evening of intellectual challenge and community fun, where residents have the opportunity to see if they're smarter than a local student. Hosted by the South Kingstown Athletic and Fine Art Boosters, this trivia night invites participants to gather a few friends, form a team, and sign up for an evening of lively competition.
In addition to the trivia contest, the event will feature raffles with exciting prizes, including SK Rebels Athletic hoodies and ultra-soft SK Rebels blankets. Light refreshments will be available for purchase, adding to the festive atmosphere of the night.
This inaugural event, marking the first collaboration between the Athletic and Fine Art Boosters, aims not just to entertain but also to support important community causes. Proceeds from the evening will contribute to funding a museum trip to New York and the purchase of new team benches for the athletic field at Broad Rock Middle School (BRMS).
The trivia night is open to the entire South Kingstown community, including parents, teachers, staff, students, relatives, and all community members. It’s a perfect opportunity to engage in a bit of friendly competition, support local students, and enjoy a night out with friends and family. To participate in this exciting event, community members are encouraged to sign up, gather their team, and join in the fun.
