South Kingstown Residents Scramble as Town Halts Plowing on Private Roads
The town of South Kingstown's decision to halt snow plowing on private roads has left residents facing a challenging winter.
Used to decades of town-provided services, the community is struggling to find alternative snow removal options, with limited availability and concerns about road conditions.
The unclear ownership of the road adds to the complexity, prompting the need for legal consultation.
The residents are calling for a grace period to find a solution, underlining safety concerns for the neighborhood, including elderly inhabitants.
Federal Aid Unlocked as Biden Signs Rhode Island Disaster Declaration
President Joe Biden recently approved a disaster declaration for Rhode Island in response to a series of severe storms that hit the state from September 10 to 13, 2023.
This declaration is a crucial step in aiding recovery efforts, as it enables residents and business owners to apply for federal assistance.
IRS Kicks Off 2024 Tax Season on January 29 With New Technology and Service Upgrades
The IRS has declared January 29 as the beginning of the 2024 tax season, with over 128.7 million tax returns anticipated by April 15.
The announcement aligns with a major revamp of the agency, powered by new funding from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act.
This overhaul aims to enhance technological infrastructure and customer service.
Key improvements include expanded taxpayer assistance centers, upgraded paperless processing, and improved online services. The IRS is also introducing a new electronic filing system for direct taxpayer use, expected to be widely available by mid-March.
