DUI Arrests in South Kingstown Highlight Ongoing Road Safety Efforts

The South Kingstown Police Department reported the arrests of Charles H. Lafreniere and William J. Moreland IV on charges of DUI. Lafreniere was involved in a crash and found with alcohol containers in his vehicle, while Moreland was stopped for speeding and showed signs of alcohol impairment.

Both face charges of DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test, among other offenses.

These incidents highlight the police's efforts to curb impaired driving and ensure road safety.

URI Women's Basketball Family Day Offers Free Tickets for Kids

URI is hosting a Family Day this Saturday, January 6, when the women's basketball team takes on St. Bonaventure.
As part of the event, admission is free for children 12 and under. The university is hoping for a big crowd to cheer on the team for the 1 PM tip-off.

Men’s Basketball
In a tight contest, URI Men’s Basketball defeated Saint Joseph's 78-74, led by Luis Kortright's decisive layup in the final second. The Rams overcame a 13-point second-half deficit, with significant contributions from Zek Montgomery, Rasheer Fleming, David Fuchs, Jaden House, and David Green. Despite consistent pressure from Saint Joseph's, including key free throws by Erik Reynolds, Rhode Island maintained their lead in the closing moments, culminating in Kortright's game-winning play.

The Men’s next game will be away against Davidson on Tuesday, January 9th at 7 PM, This game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Women’s Basketball

URI Women's Basketball Family Day Offers Free Tickets for Kids
URI is hosting a Family Day this Saturday, January 6th when the women's basketball team takes on St. Bonaventure. As part of the event, admission is free for children 12 and under. The university is hoping for a big crowd to cheer on the team for the 1 PM tip-off.
