Narragansett Residents Called to Report Storm-Related Damages for Assessment
Following the December 18 storm, the Narragansett Emergency Management Agency is gathering public input for a Preliminary Damage Assessment.
This state-requested process involves collecting information from residents and businesses about damages like flooding and structural issues. The data, which includes addresses, contact details, damage descriptions, and photos, will be shared with state authorities and may contribute to a potential Small Business Administration disaster declaration. This assessment is crucial in determining the necessity of a Presidential disaster declaration and securing aid for the community.
This information should be sent via email to the Narragansett Emergency Management Agency at [email protected] by the close of business on December 27, 2023
South Kingstown's Indian Lake Cleared of Algae Advisory
The Rhode Island Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Management have advised lifting recreational advisories for Indian Lake in South Kingstown and several other locations, following a decrease in blue-green algae levels.
The public is reminded to be vigilant of blue-green algae, especially during the winter months, and to avoid contact with water bodies that exhibit signs of algae blooms.
Matunuck Shellfish Hatchery Among Recipients of Rhode Island’s Agricultural Energy Grants
Governor Dan McKee and Rhode Island energy and environmental agencies have announced the awarding of $256,000 in grants through the Rhode Island Agricultural Energy Grant Program.
This funding, the largest since the program's start in 2016, will support 14 farms in implementing renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. Notably, Matunuck Shellfish Hatchery in South Kingstown will receive a $20,000 grant for a solar PV array. The initiative aims to help farmers reduce energy costs and carbon emissions, contributing to the state's broader climate goals
