Petals Farm: Cultivating Beauty While Respecting Nature

If you're looking for a flower farm and florist that focuses on preserving the environment, look no further than Petals Farm. Located in West Kingston, owner and operator Thanh has dedicated herself and her farm to holistic regenerative living. With a degree in Biology, she has a deep understanding of plant/soil biology, bio-chemistry, water kinetics, plant productivity, irrigation and water management, soil health, nitrogen-fixation, carbon-retention/cycle, and more, which helps her to select and grow specialty cut flowers with the best intention from seed to high-quality stems.

Unlike other flower farms that may use harmful chemicals, Petals Farm is extremely environmentally conscious, and only high-quality, eco-friendly products are sold. The farm is a true testament to Thanh's philosophy of "practical science" and conservation, focusing on sustainable farming practices that are beneficial for both the environment and local community.

Not only is Petals Farm a wonderful place to purchase flowers or indulge in some self-guided flower-picking, but the farm also prides itself on community involvement. Its apprenticeship program gives young adults the opportunity to learn and experience applied science in the field, covering a wide range of topics about plant biology and regenerative farming practices. Petals Farm also takes on design work for weddings and events, showcasing their beautiful flower arrangements.

Petals Farm continues to grow and improve every year. With the addition of their rose and peony gardens (plus over 25 varieties of perennials), the farm is a continuous blooming ecosystem that thrives harmoniously. Check out their website (www.petalsfarm.com) for more information, or follow them on Instagram (@petalsfarmri) for updates on their blooms and events.

Storm's Wrath Hits Narragansett, Causing Coastal Chaos and Infrastructure Woes

Narragansett faced a severe storm on Monday, resulting in substantial flooding and wind damage. The harsh weather led to the suspension of the Block Island Ferry service and kept fishing boats in port.
Salty Brine State Beach's parking lot was flooded, and a fence at Georgeโ€™s of Galilee was destroyed by strong waves. The Coast Guard House utilized hurricane windows to protect against the storm, which also dislodged storm drain grates, highlighting the intensity of the weather event.

URI to Spark Young Tech Talents at CS4RI Computer Science Summit

The University of Rhode Island is hosting the CS4RI Computer Science Summit on December 20, where over 600 high school and middle school students from across Rhode Island, including Narragansett and Westerly, will showcase projects and explore computer science careers.

Animal Rescue Rhode Island Among Beneficiaries in Grant from RI Foundation for Pet Care

The Rhode Island Foundation is awarding $530,000 in grants to more than two dozen local animal-welfare organizations, aiming to alleviate the veterinary care needs of pets suffering due to their owners' economic challenges. The grants will fund crucial services such as vaccinations and annual examinations, which are often neglected during tough financial times. Animal Rescue Rhode Island, a recipient of these funds, has seen a significant increase in demand for non-routine veterinary care, attributed to factors like owner surrenders and stray pets from shelters, compounded by the rising costs of veterinary care.
