South Kingstown Man Charged with Murder of Wife in Domestic Tragedy
In South Kingstown, Keith Johnson, 62, was arrested for the alleged murder of his 59-year-old wife, Gina Johnson.
The incident began with a report of a suspicious man, leading police to confront Johnson, who resisted with knives before being subdued by a taser.
At his residence on Dam Street, police found the body of Gina Johnson, presenting evident stab wounds.
Police Chief Matthew Moynihan praised the quick response and investigative work of his officers in this distressing case.
Washington Bridge Closure Leads to Traffic Surge on Newport Pell and Jamestown-Verrazzano
The temporary closure of the Washington Bridge has led to increased traffic on the Newport Pell and Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridges. This surge, especially noticeable during rush hours, comes as RIBTA continues essential maintenance on the Newport Bridge, necessitating a lane closure. RIBTA's Executive Director, Lori Caron Silveira, highlighted the importance of this maintenance work and its non-negotiable nature.
To address the growing traffic concerns and provide support to commuters, RIBTA is extending the operating hours of its E-Z Pass Customer Service Center on specific days.
The toll system on these bridges offers a reduced rate of 83 cents for Rhode Island residents with transponders, while others are billed $6 via mail.
Matunuck Troop 44 to Launch First Christmas Tree Recycling Initiative in South Kingstown
Matunuck Troop 44 is organizing their first Christmas Tree Recycling Day on January 13, 2024, exclusively for local residents. This environmentally conscious event allows residents to register online for the collection of their Christmas trees, which will then be repurposed as mulch or goat feed.
The service is open to all residential areas, including apartments and condos, and emphasizes coordination with property managers to ensure an efficient process.
While the tree collection service is free, a suggested donation of $20 supports the Troop's summer camp and activities. The initiative represents a commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.
