RIPEC Report: South Kingstown Among Hardest Hit by School Enrollment Drop
A new report from RIPEC reveals unprecedented enrollment losses in Rhode Island's public schools, with over 7,000 fewer students attending since 2019 and an alarming 18.5% drop in South Kingstown alone. The report suggests that these declines result from students seeking alternative education or leaving the system entirely, as well as a spike in chronic absenteeism.
RIPEC emphasizes the need for state investment in initiatives to reduce absenteeism, better data collection on enrollment and absenteeism, and improvements to the public education system.
RAMS
Menโs Basketball
The College of Charleston executed a commanding shooting display to overcome Rhode Island with a final score of 85-70. The Cougars' impressive accuracy from the field in the second half expanded a narrow halftime lead into a solid victory. Despite Rhode Island's balanced scoring in the first half, they were unable to counter Charleston's offensive momentum in the latter part of the game.
Next game will be away against Delaware on Saturday, December 16th at 4:30 PM.
Womenโ Basketball
Rhode Island fell to St. John's after a closely contested game saw both teams struggle offensively but remained deadlocked until the final quarter with a final score of 55-44. The Red Storm established an early lead and, despite Rhode Island's strong defensive showings and brief offensive rallies, St. John's dominated the fourth quarter with a decisive run, leading to Rhode Island's second straight loss.
Next game will be away against Le Moyne on Thursday, December 21st at 11AM.
