South Kingstown Withholds Video in Police Misconduct Allegation

An incident on June 10 involving South Kingstown police officer Jonathan McHugh and resident Jonathan Garvey, who was mistaken for a car thief and forcibly detained, is at the center of controversy due to the town's refusal to release security footage.
Legal proceedings are underway, with Garvey's lawyer seeking the video as evidence of alleged civil rights violations.

Town officials have remained silent, and a hearing is set for January 16.

Narragansett's Zoning Amendments Could Sidestep State Housing Laws

Narragansett town officials are proposing zoning rule changes that would circumvent state housing mandates designed to ease the housing crisis. The town plans to increase setback requirements by 15%, which state officials criticize as contrary to the intent of the new laws.
Narragansett also seeks to remove inclusionary zoning, potentially exacerbating housing challenges.
The proposals await further approval by the Town Council.
