Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
As the season of giving approaches, we're reaching out to our community for a collective effort to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Our goal is ambitious but attainable: we hope to raise $1,000 to aid in their crucial work.
The Food Bank is a cornerstone in the struggle against hunger, providing sustenance to over 63,000 residents of our state each month through a robust network of 140 partner agencies, including food pantries and various programs that feed the young and vulnerable.
Our commitment to eliminating hunger is steadfast, and we invite you to stand with us.
A donation of any amount can help move us toward a future where no Rhode Islander faces the uncertainty of their next meal.

South Kingstown Approves Fines Increases to Launch Municipal Court, Keeps Parking Steady
The South Kingstown Town Council voted to amend parts of the town code to allow for a new municipal court, including increasing some fines.
But one councilor objected to raising any fines during tough economic times, arguing the court should not be for revenue.
The council compromised by leaving parking fines unchanged for now while raising fines for offenses like disorderly conduct in the other amended chapters.
Ship to Station: A New Initiative by South Kingstown Police to Secure Online Purchases
In an effort to combat the rise in package thefts during the holiday season, the South Kingstown Police Department has launched the 'Ship to Station' program.
This initiative allows residents to send their online shopping deliveries directly to the police station at 1790 Kingstown Road, South Kingstown, RI 02879.
Chief Matthew Moynihan emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in ensuring neighborhood safety.
To use the service, residents should forward their delivery confirmations to [email protected].
Upon package collection, a photo ID and a copy of the email or delivery confirmation matching the package's name are required.
The police, however, will not accept packages that require a signature at the station.
Bryant Da Cruz Resigns from Ethics Commission Amidst Harassment Claims
Bryant Da Cruz, previously a vice chairman of the South Kingstown Town Council, has resigned from his position on the Rhode Island Ethics Commission amid allegations of sending inappropriate messages to at least six women, including two town employees.
The Governor's office, acknowledging the inadequacy of the vetting process that led to his appointment, has accepted Cruz's resignation and plans to appoint a replacement.
John Marion of Common Cause Rhode Island commented on the seriousness of the allegations and the importance of rigorous vetting for such influential positions. An internal memo from the town revealed that six complaints had been filed against Cruz, leading to an expanded sexual harassment policy to encompass elected officials.
Marion emphasized the negative impact of such behavior on the morale of Ethics Commission staff and those appearing before the Commission.
South Kingstown Police Warn of Deceptive Phone Scam Seeking Money
Rhode Island residents have been cautioned by the South Kingstown Police Department about a deceptive phone scam. In this scam, callers fraudulently identify themselves as members of the South Kingstown Police Department and falsely claim that the recipient has missed a court date or has an impending arrest warrant.
These callers then demand payment to resolve these fictitious legal issues.
Chief Matthew Moynihan emphasizes that legitimate police officers would never solicit money over the phone and urges residents to remain vigilant and not to fall prey to these manipulative tactics.

Men’s Basketball
In a compelling college basketball matchup, Providence College secured a decisive victory against the University of Rhode Island, ending the game with a score of 84-69.
The game was tightly contested until Providence, led by the stellar performances of Jayden Pierre and Bryce Hopkins, pulled away in the second half. Pierre's seven-point run and Hopkins' 19 second-half points were crucial in establishing a lead.
The Friars' shooting accuracy, notably better than Rhode Island's, played a significant role in their victory, extending their winning streak against the Rams to three games.
Next home game will be against Brown on Wednesday, December 6th with a 7:02 PM tip-off. The game can be seen on ESPN+
Women’ Basketball
In a thrilling encounter, the University of Rhode Island's women's basketball team secured a landmark victory against the 25th-ranked Princeton Tigers, ending with a score of 60-58.
This win is significant as it marks the program's first against a nationally-ranked team. The game's defining moments came in the final seconds, with key defensive plays by Mayé Touré and Anäelle Dutat thwarting Princeton's last-ditch efforts to score. Dee Dee Davis's 21-point performance, including a remarkable 14 points in the second quarter, along with Touré's dominant defensive rebounding, were instrumental in Rhode Island's victory.
Next game will be away against Providence on Wednesday, December 6th at 7PM.
