Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
As the season of giving approaches, we're reaching out to our community for a collective effort to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Our goal is ambitious but attainable: we hope to raise $1,000 to aid in their crucial work.
The Food Bank is a cornerstone in the struggle against hunger, providing sustenance to over 63,000 residents of our state each month through a robust network of 140 partner agencies, including food pantries and various programs that feed the young and vulnerable.
Our commitment to eliminating hunger is steadfast, and we invite you to stand with us.
A donation of any amount can help move us toward a future where no Rhode Islander faces the uncertainty of their next meal.

Preventing Festive Fires: NFPA's Vital Christmas Tree Safety Guidelines
The holiday season, while festive, brings with it an increased risk of home fires, often involving Christmas decorations and trees.
On average, nearly 800 decoration-related fires, excluding Christmas trees, are reported each year, resulting in property damage and injuries.
To mitigate risks, the National Fire Protection Association provides several safety tips for those who choose to celebrate with a real Christmas tree.
When selecting a tree, it’s crucial to ensure the needles are fresh and firmly attached.
Placement of the tree should be a minimum of three feet from heat sources and should not obstruct exits.
It's recommended to trim the base of the tree before setting it up and to keep the stand filled with water.
For lighting, only use certified lights appropriate for the setting and check for damaged cords. Lights should be switched off when not at home or while asleep.
Post-holiday, it’s advised to dispose of the tree promptly once it dries out, as it becomes highly flammable, and to participate in local tree recycling programs.

Women’ Basketball
The University of Rhode Island's women's basketball team suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Quinnipiac, with the final score 61-59, decided by a buzzer-beater. The game was closely contested, with URI leading by seven points with just minutes remaining, thanks to Mayé Touré's successful free throws. However, Quinnipiac mounted a comeback, spearheaded by crucial 3-pointers from Jackie Grisdale and Paige Girardi. In a dramatic last minute, the teams exchanged leads before Touré's free throw tied the game at 59-59. Quinnipiac called a strategic timeout, and despite URI's defensive efforts, Bri Bowen secured the win with a baseline jumper as time expired.
URI aims to rebound from this loss in their next home game against Princeton on Sunday December 3rd at 1PM.
