Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
As the season of giving approaches, we're reaching out to our community for a collective effort to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Our goal is ambitious but attainable: we hope to raise $1,000 to aid in their crucial work.
The Food Bank is a cornerstone in the struggle against hunger, providing sustenance to over 63,000 residents of our state each month through a robust network of 140 partner agencies, including food pantries and various programs that feed the young and vulnerable.
Our commitment to eliminating hunger is steadfast, and we invite you to stand with us.
A donation of any amount can help move us toward a future where no Rhode Islander faces the uncertainty of their next meal.

Peace Dale Gears Up for Traditional Tree Lighting Extravaganza
The Village Green in Peace Dale, is set to glow with festive cheer on December 1st as the community gathers for the Annual Tree Lighting ceremony.
The event, commencing at 5:30 pm, will host performances by the choruses from The Prout School and Peace Dale School, with a holiday sing-along session conducted by members of the Wakefield Concert Band. Attendees can enjoy warm cookies and hot chocolate in anticipation of a special visitor in a red coat who will lead the countdown to light up the village's new holiday tree.
Rhode Island Prepares to Open Winter Family Shelter in Kingston
In response to the pressing need for shelter during the winter months in Washington County, the Rhode Island Department of Housing is close to finalizing the establishment of a temporary shelter for families.
The proposed facility, managed in partnership with the WARM Center, will occupy a currently vacant state-owned building on the University of Rhode Island's campus. Pending final approval by the Rhode Island State Properties Committee, the shelter could provide refuge for up to 12 families at a time from December through April.
As calls for family housing assistance rise daily, the WARM Center's Executive Director emphasizes the urgent need for the shelter's immediate launch, highlighting the scarcity of family-specific sheltering options in the county.
DEM Announces Safety Guidelines for Upcoming Shotgun Deer Season
As the shotgun deer season approaches, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is issuing a reminder for all individuals in state management areas to wear 500 square inches of fluorescent orange for safety. This requirement, starting on December 2nd, applies to all recreational users, not just hunters. Archers and waterfowl hunters have specific exemptions, provided they are hunting from boats or blinds or in archery-only areas.
Furthermore, the DEM emphasizes the importance of checking in deer at state-run biological stations during the first two days of the shotgun season. The check stations, operational from 8 AM to 6 PM, are essential for biologists to gather data on the deer population's health.
All deer hunting on private land requires annual written permission, and the DEM offers a courtesy card for hunters and landowners to facilitate this process. The DEM advocates for hunting on private property as a sustainable deer management strategy.
