Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank

As the season of giving approaches, we're reaching out to our community for a collective effort to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Our goal is ambitious but attainable: we hope to raise $1,000 to aid in their crucial work.

The Food Bank is a cornerstone in the struggle against hunger, providing sustenance to over 63,000 residents of our state each month through a robust network of 140 partner agencies, including food pantries and various programs that feed the young and vulnerable.

Our commitment to eliminating hunger is steadfast, and we invite you to stand with us.

A donation of any amount can help move us toward a future where no Rhode Islander faces the uncertainty of their next meal.

Together, we can fortify our community and ensure that the pangs of hunger are met with the comfort of community care.

Thank You To

National Honor for South Kingstown Shelter: A Safe Haven for All Pets

The South Kingstown Animal Shelter has received accolades from Best Friends Animal Network for maintaining no-kill standards throughout 2022, a testament to its life-preserving policies and practices.

The South Kingstown shelter showcases adoptable pets on its Facebook page and Petfinder, and invites the community to visit at its Asa Pond Road location.

Narragansett Bay's Quahog Future: Temporary Relief Through Nitrogen

A recent discussion at Smith Hill revealed that augmenting winter nitrogen levels in Narragansett Bay might temporarily raise the density of quahogs by fostering phytoplankton growth, their primary food source.

This revelation comes amidst shellfishermen's concerns that reduced nitrogen due to state environmental policies has dwindled quahog numbers.

While University of Rhode Island's Professor Candace Oviatt assures that winter nitrogen spikes wouldn't induce harmful hypoxic events, she warns that global warming could render this strategy ineffective in the long run.
