Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank

We are proud to partner with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in their mission to end hunger across our state. This vital organization distributes food to over 63,000 Rhode Islanders in need each month through their network of 140 partner agencies like food pantries, meal sites, and youth programs.

The Food Bank works tirelessly to source donations from the community, food industry, wholesalers and more. Last year they distributed a staggering 15.1 million pounds of food, including 2.7 million pounds of fresh produce. Their reach is wide, but so is the need.

That's where we come in. By donating funds, we can help the Food Bank maximize resources and purchasing power. Just $1 provides 3 meals for a hungry Rhode Islander. Together, our contributions go further to nourish our neighbors facing food insecurity.

It takes a village to address an issue like hunger, and we are proud to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. If you'd like to join us in fighting hunger, please donate!

Our community is stronger when no one goes hungry - let's work together towards that vision.

Thank You!

Veterans Day Parade Set to March Down Main Street

On Saturday, November 11, 2023, the town of South Kingstown will honor its veterans with a parade and ceremony, hosted by the local VFW Post 916. The event, set to commence at 10:00 am, is a call to the community to celebrate and acknowledge the service of local military members.

Grand Marshal Montafix Houghton, a notable figure both as a commander in the RI National Guard and as a captain within the South Kingstown Police Department, will lead the procession. The parade will make its way from Holly Street to Main Street and conclude at the Saugatucket Park Veterans Monument on High Street.

Participants will include veteran organizations, the South Kingstown High School marching band, elected officials, military groups, community entities, and public safety agencies. The event will culminate with a post-parade ceremony at Saugatucket Park at 11:00 am, featuring former VFW State Commander Joe โ€œTigerโ€ Patrick as Master of Ceremonies and Colonel Scott P. Hoyle as the guest speaker.

Veterans and their families are encouraged to partake in the parade, gathering behind Old Mountain Lanes prior to the start. Should the weather be unfavorable, the ceremony will be relocated to South Kingstown High School.

URI Basketball Steps into the Future with New Soloviev Practice Complex

URI has unveiled the Soloviev Basketball Practice Facility, a renovated space serving as the new hub for the men's and women's basketball teams, costing just under $8 million and funded privately, mainly by alumnus Stefan Soloviev.

The facility includes a full-sized practice court and additional half-courts, featuring 24/7 player access and proximity to other athletic facilities, positioning basketball as a central sport within the university's athletic community.

Frosty Drew Observatory Concerned Over Ninigret Park's Lighting Proposal

The Frosty Drew Observatory's director and local stargazers in Charlestown are concerned about Ninigret Park's proposed lighting updates, fearing they will negatively impact the park's renowned night sky views.

Town officials are updating the park's master plan, considering additional lighting to extend sports practice times, but the observatory suggests this could compromise one of the best stargazing spots in the region.
