Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
We are proud to partner with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in their mission to end hunger across our state. This vital organization distributes food to over 63,000 Rhode Islanders in need each month through their network of 140 partner agencies like food pantries, meal sites, and youth programs.
The Food Bank works tirelessly to source donations from the community, food industry, wholesalers and more. Last year they distributed a staggering 15.1 million pounds of food, including 2.7 million pounds of fresh produce. Their reach is wide, but so is the need.
That's where we come in. By donating funds, we can help the Food Bank maximize resources and purchasing power. Just $1 provides 3 meals for a hungry Rhode Islander. Together, our contributions go further to nourish our neighbors facing food insecurity.
It takes a village to address an issue like hunger, and we are proud to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. If you'd like to join us in fighting hunger, please donate!
Our community is stronger when no one goes hungry - let's work together towards that vision.
Thank You!

South County Health Among Hospitals Rated in Leapfrog's Latest Safety Report
The Leapfrog Group's Fall 2023 report on hospital safety grades showed Rhode Island hospitals generally improving in infection prevention following the pandemic.
Out of nine hospitals evaluated, three received "A" grades, and three, including South County Hospital, earned a "B." The remaining three got a "C" grade, with none scoring below that.
Despite improvements in safety, the report highlighted a drop in patient satisfaction for the second straight year.
Demolition Planned for Narragansett's Historic Lighthouse Inn
Narragansett’s Lighthouse Inn, recognized as a landmark since its construction in 1970, has reached the end of its tenure with plans for demolition underway.
Detailed inspections have uncovered the presence of asbestos, lead paint, and other hazardous materials, making the site unsuitable for occupation or redevelopment.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management has confirmed the necessity of the demolition and is currently in the process of appointing a contractor to perform the task responsibly.
Although the specific date for demolition is yet to be determined, the bidding process for potential contractors will conclude in late November. The once-thriving inn has been closed for half a decade following financial woes of the last owners.
Rose Hill Regional Landfill Named in Rhode Island's PFAS Contamination Assessment
The Rhode Island DEM has released a detailed report outlining six main sources of PFAS contamination. These include Department of Defense sites, Superfund sites like the Rose Hill Regional Landfill in South Kingstown, landfills, wastewater treatment facilities, fire stations, and textile mills.
The state's first thorough investigation into PFAS impacts follows new regulations that require water systems to test for these chemicals.
With several systems already exceeding the safe levels, the DEM recommends a robust testing protocol to better understand and manage the risks posed by PFAS.
Trout and Salmon Stocking Planned Across Rhode Island for Veterans Day
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is recognizing the service of local veterans with a fish stocking initiative ahead of Veterans Day weekend.
From Tuesday to Friday, 16 selected ponds and lakes (Barber Pond & Tucker Pond in South Kingstown and Watchaug Pond in Charlestown.) will be stocked with rainbow trout, brook trout, and Sebago Atlantic salmon.
The DEM director highlighted the stocking as a gesture of gratitude towards veterans, encouraging them to take advantage of the outdoors and fishing opportunities.
