Fighting Hunger Together with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank
We are proud to partner with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank in their mission to end hunger across our state. This vital organization distributes food to over 63,000 Rhode Islanders in need each month through their network of 140 partner agencies like food pantries, meal sites, and youth programs.
The Food Bank works tirelessly to source donations from the community, food industry, wholesalers and more. Last year they distributed a staggering 15.1 million pounds of food, including 2.7 million pounds of fresh produce. Their reach is wide, but so is the need.
That's where we come in. By donating funds, we can help the Food Bank maximize resources and purchasing power. Just $1 provides 3 meals for a hungry Rhode Islander. Together, our contributions go further to nourish our neighbors facing food insecurity.
It takes a village to address an issue like hunger, and we are proud to support the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. If you'd like to join us in fighting hunger, please donate!
Our community is stronger when no one goes hungry - let's work together towards that vision.
Thank You!

Public Alert: Worden Pond Off-Limits Due to Harmful Algae Toxins
The Rhode Island Department of Health has issued a public health advisory for Worden Pond in South Kingstown following the discovery of toxic blue-green algae blooms.
The advisory includes a warning to avoid consuming water or fish from the pond and to refrain from participating in any recreational activities on the water.
The potential health threats posed by the algae's toxins are particularly dangerous for animals, prompting additional warnings for pet owners to prevent their animals from engaging with the pond's water.
The advisory will remain active until conditions improve and the pond is deemed safe for public use and enjoyment.
Construction Continues on Old North Road; Detours in Effect
South Kingstown's Old North Road will see a pavement overlay project between Route 138 and Flagg Road beginning November 7, which will result in traffic delays during the hours of 7 AM to 6 PM. Detours will reroute northbound traffic via Stony Fort Road to Plains Road and southbound via Upper College Road to campus, while Route 138 will remain open.
The construction is anticipated to last four weeks, during which residents are requested not to park along the affected road.
The road will stay open for local residents and during evening hours, but through traffic should seek alternatives.
Skates and Pucks Return: URI’s Boss Ice Arena Reopens
The University of Rhode Island's Boss Ice Arena has reopened after several months of inactivity caused by mechanical failures.
The reopening on Saturday was met with enthusiasm from the university's hockey team and local ice skaters. As a vital venue for the university's athletic programs, as well as numerous high school teams and youth leagues, the arena's operational pause had a significant impact on the community.
Now, with repairs completed, the facility is set to host a busy schedule of practices, games, and public skating events.
