Drive with Caution: South Kingstown’s Old North Road Enters Paving Phase

South Kingstown gears up for an extensive paving operation on Old North Road, commencing on November 1st.

Initially, during business hours, traffic will be confined to a single lane between Flagg Road and Route 138.

By November 7th, a complete road blockage is anticipated for this stretch, with detours guiding vehicles to alternative routes.

The project is set to wrap up by the end of November, prompting residents to strategize their commutes.

Navigating the New: Memorial Square Upgrades Amid Potential Detours

Pending favorable weather, Memorial Square in Narragansett is slated for reconstruction, covering the stretch from Ocean Road to its crossroads with Beach St, Kingstown Rd, and Mathewson St.

The project encompasses the creation of ADA-compliant sidewalks. As the four roads intersect, the area will be milled and coated with asphalt in line with ADA standards.

While residents might encounter reroutes and minor holdups during the construction, essential sites, notably the Post Office and The Towers, will stay accessible.

Game On: URI Kickstarts $20M Fundraising Quest for Athletic Upgrades

URI has launched a $20 million fundraising campaign to renovate its athletic fields, including Meade Stadium and the outdoor track.

While the state has committed $65.8 million, the total project cost is about $82 million.

Preliminary designs show an upgraded stadium and a track inclusive of multiple athletic events and facilities.

The renovation's phased progression depends on the funds sourced. Initial stages involve design and construction plans, with the possibility of starting the stadium's revamp after the next football season.

Local Business's Generosity Knows No Bounds: Free Heating System on Offer for Third Year

Local business, Superior Comfort Inc., is inviting applications for its third annual heating system giveaway aimed at households in need.

Having previously aided a North Kingstown family and a Newport resident, the company is eager to extend its goodwill further.

This state-wide initiative has gained traction over the years, and the recipient will be gifted a heating system valued at $12,000.

The application process, available on their website, ends on November 30th, with the winner announced the following day.
