Bradford R. Boss Arena at URI Set to Reopen Nov. 6 After Months-Long Repair

The Bradford R. Boss Arena at the University of Rhode Island is set to lay down a new sheet of ice possibly next week following mechanical issues in August that led to the arena's closure.

Repairs, which included electrical work and the installation of temporary compressors, are on schedule.

While many teams, including the Jr. Rams and the URI Men's Club hockey team, have been displaced due to the closure, the target reopening date is Nov. 6.

South Kingstown Police Captain Montafix Houghton named new Regiment Commander for Rhode Island National Guard

South Kingstown Police Captain Montafix Houghton was appointed as the commander of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 182nd Infantry Regiment by the Rhode Island National Guard.

The unit, stationed in East Greenwich, recently returned from a year-long Middle East mission. Houghton's inspiration to serve stemmed from his grandfather's WW2 service and stories of other family military involvements.

His commitment to service began during his theology studies, which led him to the ROTC program. Houghton's selection as commander was attributed to his extensive experience, notably his role during the Middle East deployment.
