Road Work Ahead: Paving Scheduled for Frank Avenue and Waites Corner Road

The roads are getting some TLC in South Kingstown. Starting October 16th, the town will begin pavement overlay work on Frank Avenue and Waites Corner Road.

Residents can expect construction crews on these roads between the hours of 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. The paving project aims to improve the condition of the road surface on these frequently-traveled neighborhood streets.

The town thanks residents in advance for their patience during active construction. Minor traffic delays are possible but crews will work diligently to minimize disruption.

Narragansett Woman Faces DUI Charges Following Early Morning Arrest by South Kingstown Police

Anjelica Ferrao, a 31-year-old woman from Narragansett, was arrested by South Kingstown police early Sunday morning for driving erratically on Route 1 and exhibiting signs of impairment, such as the smell of alcohol and failure of field sobriety tests.

Ferrao was charged with suspicion of DUI and refusal to undergo a chemical test after being pulled over near South County Commons.

South Kingstown to Reevaluate $151M High School Reconstruction Referendum Amid Financial Concerns

The South Kingstown Town Council and School Committee are set to meet on October 24th to discuss the future of a postponed high school reconstruction referendum.

Initially proposed as a $125 million project, anticipated costs have now risen to an estimated $151 million, prompting its removal from the November ballot.

Finance Director Brian Silvia reviewed the financial implications for homeowners and the town’s tax levy, noting an incremental tax increase and an estimated levy growth of just over 8% across the five-year bond rollout. The meeting is to avoid initiating the project without secured, adequate funding and to assess its impact on taxpayers.

RAMS

Richmond Spiders Weave a 24-17 Victory, Ensuring a Disappointing Homecoming for No. 22 Rhode Island Rams

The University of Rhode Island's No. 22 Rams faced a disheartening 24-17 defeat at their homecoming game against the Richmond Spiders, despite a promising start and a brief lead in the second quarter.

The Spiders dominated most of the match, even securing 17 uninterrupted points at one stage, and maintained their lead despite a late surge from the Rams.

Although the Rams showed moments of potential, with notable performances from players like Kasim Hill and A.J. Pena, they couldn't clinch a comeback, leaving Richmond to seize the victory.

Late-Game Surprises: VCU Snatches Victory with Final-Minute Goals Against Rhode Island

In a men's soccer match against VCU, Rhode Island witnessed a disappointing 3-1 defeat despite a spirited effort and a goal from Brandon Bermingham, his fifth in four games.

After a scoreless first half and an equalizing goal from Bermingham in response to VCU's initial score, URI couldn't maintain momentum.

VCU sealed their win with two late goals in the final three minutes, despite both teams having equal shots on goal and solid playing from several URI team members.

Rhode Island Women's Soccer Overpowered by Saint Louis in 5-0 Setback During Breast Cancer Awareness Match

The Rhode Island Women's Soccer team faced a robust defeat against Saint Louis, with a final score of 5-0, during their Breast Cancer Awareness game.

Saint Louis showcased their offensive strength, scoring twice in the first half and three times in the second half.

The Rams managed only two shots on goal, courtesy of Sam Hagerty and Lauren MacDonald.

Despite a season-high 11 saves from senior Faith Hutchins and full-game participation from Hutchins and Tess O'Connell, Rhode Island couldn't resist the offensive blitz from a Saint Louis team that had previously scored 20 goals in their last seven conference matches.
