Breakfast Nook II Faces Uncertain Future Amid Staffing Woes and Past Challenges

Breakfast Nook II, a popular breakfast and lunch spot at 575 Kingstown Road, has temporarily closed due to staffing issues, as noted by a sign in its window.

The restaurant, which has faced past challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and a damaging fire in 2022, has struggled to retain staff, with many moving on to other employment.

Despite efforts to reopen after both the pandemic and the fire, the business continuously faced staffing shortages. The restaurant's ongoing challenges mirror larger workforce trends in the U.S., such as retirements, changing worker preferences, and labor shortages.

Whether the Breakfast Nook II will reopen remains uncertain.

Rhode Island District Court Warns of Phone Scammers Posing as Court Officials

The U.S. District Court of Rhode Island has warned about phone scammers pretending to be court or law enforcement officials.

These scammers try to extract personal information, such as social security and card numbers, by falsely claiming the victim will be arrested for missing jury duty or other court-related matters.

The scammers use authentic-sounding details like actual federal names and badge numbers, and even manipulate caller IDs to seem legitimate.

The court emphasized they will never ask for card details or wire transfers and advised people to verify suspicious calls by contacting the Clerk’s Office directly.

Hill's Big Day Leads Rhode Island to 49-26 Win Over Bryant

Kasim Hill led Rhode Island to a 49-26 victory over Bryant on Saturday with big performances both passing and running. Hill threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns while also running for a touchdown as the Rams pulled away in the second quarter.

Bryant had taken an early 13-0 lead before Hill connected on a 57-yard TD pass followed by a rushing score to put Rhode Island ahead 14-13. He later hit another long pass touchdown right before halftime to make it 28-13.

Bryant's freshman Syeed Gibbs appeared to return an interception for a touchdown but it was ruled out of bounds at the 1-yard line after review.

Rhode Island continued to expand the lead in the second half, ultimately winning by 23 points.
